Civil Defence services are provided by Civil Defence Organisation, West Bengal through its different wings, viz., (i) Controllers of Civil Defence in Kolkata and all the Districts, (ii) West Bengal Civil Emergency Force, (iii) Water Wing Civil Defence, (iv) Central Civil Defence Training Institute and (v) Casualty Services.

With Headquarters at Kalyani, the permanent establishment of WBNVF Organisation has 4 Training Centres at Kalyani, Halishahar, Cooch Behar and Kurseong and 2 Biswakarma Battalions at Durgapur and Kalyani.

Following are some of the major activities of West Bengal Civil Defence:

• Monsoon deployment of Civil Defence volunteers and NVF volunteers in flood prone districts
• Ganga Sagar Mela deployment
• Deployment during major festivals and celebrations
• Deployment for emergencies, natural disasters like storm, flood, earthquake, cyclone etc.
• Mock exercises for emergencies and disasters
• Relief, rescue and first aid during and after disasters
• Disaster and emergency monitoring
• NVF volunteers assist police during elections and in maintaining law & order situations
• NVF volunteers are posted in Govt. offices, important installations, public institutions as security personnel

This Department takes all necessary measures to cope up with any exigency, ensuring safety and security of life and property.
